Achy Smile
The designer behind this migraine awareness merchandise is my friend Erica. Erica is a powerful woman with a big smile! She is a mom of 2 teenagers and lives in North Carolina with her husband. She was diagnosed with a rare illness known as Hemiplegic Migraine (HM) in 2009 after battling symptoms of stroke and epilepsy since 2004. Since she started her blog and rocketed into apparel, she has been a strong supporter and voice for the chronic illness community. Achy Smile and My Migraine Life have been friends virtually for years.
Last year at Retreat Migraine, I was VERY sick! I stumbled around the conference back and forth from my room, trying to get as much out of the weekend as possible. On the last night, I was barely walking but needed to eat. Erica and I sat together. Her kindness and understanding were felt through our mutual respect for migraine and their effects on our bodies. As I sat in my PJs, we talked (she mostly talked while I stared at the roll I was trying to stomach), and she distracted me from my pain for the entire meal. This is the only picture I took from the weekend with someone else. I knew many people, and Erica was the only one I could muster up a smile for. My buddy!
Migraine Awareness
The most amazing thing about being a migraine advocate is finding others to connect to. I didn’t have to explain myself. She just got me. With that said, I encourage you to look at Achy Smile Shop and use code MYMIGRAINE to support Erica as she did me. To express that migraine is way more than a headache, and it’s something we all hide so well. Behind that smile, I had a migraine, upper respiratory infection, and double ear infection (all discovered after flying home).
Continue to check back for more Migraine Awareness Month events and activities. There are many ways to participate, and I encourage you to do what feels best for you!
