I was given a Norb Green Light bulb ‘Relief’ to review. The bulb is meant to help with my migraine light sensitivity and has helped a lot.

*Norb®  lighting is dedicated to providing the right type of light to fit your needs to perform better. Their interest is in the biology of lighting to help you to be healthier, happier, and more productive. I never thought about “light nutrition” before but it makes so much sense! I am always wearing glasses to block the light, why not change the color? Light is such a crucial part of My Migraine Life and using the relief bulb is another way it’s making a difference. If you are looking to try green light therapy, Norb light bulbs are a cost-efficient and drug-free option to try.

Norb Light Relief

Norb Relief uses Flicker Free/Narrow-Green® spectrum designed to reduce the occurrence of light-induced migraine attacks. It is hoped to reduce the pain level of existing migraine symptoms. Pure green light has helped with pain from fibromyalgia and neuropathy as well.

The Science Behind Green Light and Migraine

Migraine Light Therapy

The idea that a special light can help people living with migraine was originally discovered by Rami Burstein, Ph.D., of Beth Israel Deaconess (associated with Harvard Medical School). He was researching light as a trigger to migraine in blind people and made some important discoveries.

  • Narrow-band green light is less likely to trigger migraine attacks (in comparison to white, blue, red, or yellow light).
  • Low-intensity narrow-band green light can soothe or reduce the severity of headache pain, and other pain from fibromyalgia and neuropathy.
  • Does not intensify migraine pain.
  • Holds promise as an inexpensive therapy for those who live with migraine disease.
  • Can help reduce pain, potentially by stimulating the body to make more of its own naturally occurring pain killers.

When to Use Norb Light

My favorite time to use the Norb lighting is in the evenings.  By the end of the day, my pain tends to raise and my light sensitivity is heightened.  I use the Norb light in my reading lamp that I sit under to read to my children.  Norb bulbs are only for use on 120 Volt, 60 Hz circuits. The green light is gentle on my eyes and takes the brightness off pages. This picture is a great example of how the green light relieves the brightness of my book, although slightly blurry via a screen.  According to their discoveries, “after a brief adjustment, the page will appear whiter and the contrast between the page and the text will be stronger.”

The illustration says, “And that’s why Mommy’s head hurts because certain things can trigger her pain.” Light is always a huge trigger for my pain and Norb relief light has helped that. I find the ambient light to be soothing and different but in a good way. While learning remotely, my children have reported that they also like the green light. They request it at the end of the day versus our white lights. It feels relaxing. I am choosing between the smile or focus for their desks.

This year, I have learned a lot about green light and have been responding really well to it! I’m not a doctor and I don’t understand all the science.  I am just someone who struggles a lot with light sensitivity and pain.  Any natural, daily tools that I can use to help with this is a blessing.  It is a simple switch in my everyday life.  It is a cost-effective way to find relief from photophobia.

hi there, curious, since you’ve used both products, if you find any difference in symptom reduction btwn the norb bulb and the allay lamp?

I don’t find a huge difference in symptom reduction in one over the other. The Allay lamp is more portable and the dimmer is so helpful. The Norb is in a lamp and only used in that place. The Allay can be used more diversely.
