Do Weighted blankets for migraine work? A few years ago, I taught children with mild to severe special needs. During this time, I saw how incredibly powerful specialists are. Physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, adaptive physical education and music. The list goes on with how many ways there are to treat various needs. One item I found particularly helpful was a weighted blanket for students.
I saw first hand how a weighted vest or lap blanket calmed a child. For some reason I never considered sensory integration therapy for migraine and symptoms until then. I was laying on the couch with a migraine and under a blanket. With muscles clenched and in pain, I was restless. I was cold so I piled a bunch of blankets on myself and felt the weight wash over me, calming my body a bit.
Best Weighted Blankets for Migraine
After searching, I found SensaCalm. I contacted them and the owner was so interested in helping me!!
The “weighted blankets, wraps, and lap pads provide the user with soothing, deep pressure and compressions, allowing the user to relax and calm themselves.”
The variety of choices was fun to look through and blankets can be custom made. My blanket has a “cuddle” fabric and is incredibly soft! I love this blanket!!! Like all therapeutic products, it is not cheap. The blanket is an investment in my treatment. Rest and comfort, especially during migraine times, I need extra sensory input. The blanket will not stop a migraine but treats my overall pain and discomfort in my body. I now use this blanket everyday and recommend it to anyone with sensory needs.
While scrolling through, I ran across the epsom salt soap.
“Epsom salts are known to provide a dose of magnesium through the skin (which people with autism tend to be short on).”
Migraine sufferers also tend to be short on magnesium. Along with using the weighted blanket for migraine, I use the lavender bar in the shower for days I don’t have time to take a bath (which are most days). It is made of a variety of natural ingredients made to draw out toxins and calm.
SensaCalm is a new item added to my gift list and I look forward to enjoying it all winter and year round. It has been an amazing addition to my Migraine tool kit at home. Like all products, please consult your doctor and see the safety guidelines provided by SensaCalm.
